Purpose. Image Analyst is an offline diagnostic and tonal experiment tool, not a photo editor. Nothing modifies your original file. Findings are screening suggestions, not proof of faults.

1 · Begin

Open a JPEG, PNG or WebP image, or drop it into the workspace. Maximum 32 megapixels and 32 MiB. RAW and animated images are unsupported. The built-in test card appears on launch and after Start over. Processing remains on your device.

2 · Analysis and viewing

Colour checks red, green and blue (RGB) channel limits. B&W focuses on luminance and monochrome characteristics. Choose Source or Tonal Test under Analyse to choose what is measured and exported. Diagnostics shows overlays; Tonal Test lets you simulate adjustments.

ControlWhat it means
CleanView without marker overlays.
RGB limitsOrange at a channel endpoint; not a colour-gamut test.
ZebraMagenta at the white end, green at the black end; not automatically a defect.
FringePossible colour-edge artifacts; subject colours can produce false warnings.
BandingPossible step patterns; compression and real features can trigger it.
ThirdsComposition grid; does not create an assessment finding.
Tone mapSeven-zone luminance classification, not the image's final appearance.
All markersCombined overlays, using a display priority when they overlap.

Marker intensity changes overlay visibility; sensitivity changes fringe/band screening thresholds. Higher sensitivity can increase false positives.

3 · Tonal Test

The six adjustments are Exposure, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks and Contrast. Every preview is recalculated from the original, never by repeatedly processing the last preview. Auto Test explores a restricted range of tonal options, not an automatic enhancement. Reset tonal clears all six controls.

The comparison curtain shows Source on the left and Test on the right. At 0% you see full Test; at 100% you see full Source. Hold or toggle Show source for an untouched view. Tonal controls use illustrative ranges, not ON1 Photo RAW settings.

4 · Results and measurements

Assessment findings follow the currently analysed buffer. The measurement dock offers Histogram, Tone bands, Markers, Technical data and Findings. Findings contains current image-specific screening results; this guide explains their meaning. The PDF report also includes the findings. The preview analysis is limited to 1200 pixels on the longest side. Transparent pixels are excluded from pixel measurements; checkerboard is only for display.

5 · Export

Choose a file prefix. Tone map saves a native-resolution PNG; Original copies the original file bytes; PDF report includes preview-based findings. Your browser determines the download folder. Reports and maps state whether Source or Tonal Test was analysed.

6 · Important limits

Inspect your original at 100% before deciding that clipping, noise, banding or chromatic aberration is real. Shifting a clipped value away from the endpoint cannot bring back missing source detail. No RAW headroom calculation, ICC conversion, output-gamut proof, layers, masks, presets or full photographic export is provided.

Keyboard shortcuts

L = load, Z = zebra, S = show source, E = PDF report, ? = help, Escape = close guide. Shortcuts are ignored while editing text or sliders.
