07 Durness – (4 Day Stay)

Durness, a remote village in the Scottish Highlands, is the most north-westerly settlement on mainland Britain. Situated on the North Coast 500 route, it’s a popular stop for travelers seeking dramatic landscapes and outdoor activities.

The area is famous for its stunning scenery, including pristine white-sand beaches like Balnakeil Bay and Sango Bay, and the dramatic cliffs of Cape Wrath. The village’s most notable attraction is Smoo Cave, a unique combined sea and freshwater cave with a magnificent waterfall inside. Visitors can take a boat trip to explore its inner chambers.

Durness has a rich history, with evidence of human settlement dating back over 6,000 years. The area also holds a unique place in cultural history, as it was a frequent holiday destination for a young John Lennon. The John Lennon Memorial Garden in the village pays tribute to his connection to the area. For a taste of local art, the Balnakeil Craft Village, housed in a former military radar station, is home to various artists and artisans.
