Mask feathering helps eliminate halos by softening the edge of a mask, which creates a smoother transition between the edited and unedited areas of an image.
Previous masking tools created hard edges, which often led to unnatural halos or visible boundaries when specific adjustments – such as detail enhancement – were applied to a selected area. By applying feathering to soften these hard boundaries, the halo effect is significantly reduced, resulting in a more natural blend between the edited subject and its surrounding environment
