Today ON1 are releasing Photo RAW 2026.5, a free update for owners of ON1 Photo RAW 2026. This release focuses on the parts of the app you feel everyday: a modernized AI Inference Engine, an updated graphics rendering engine, and a faster, more predictable start-up and shutdown. We’ve also added support for new cameras and lenses, made the Component Manager smoother, and given the mobile app a new way to bring photos in from other apps. Owners can download the update from their account.
Faster Performance with the New AI Inference Engine
On Windows, the biggest change ON1 have made in 2026.5 is under the hood. They rewrote the AI Inference Engine to take advantage of vendor-specific hardware and it delivers a substantial increase in performance on certain hardware. This improvement depends on each hardware vendor’s own providers, so we expect the gains to grow further as manufacturers roll out additional optimizations over time. This builds on the performance work they introduced in ON1 Photo RAW 2026.4 and they plan to keep pushing this with every release.
A Modernized Rendering Engine for Deep Stacks and Masks
ON1 has also been busy modernizing their graphics rendering engine to take advantage of the latest platform-specific GPU technologies. You’ll notice the difference most in deep layer stacks and images with several masks applied. The bigger change is behind the scenes: the new engine lets them tune performance more precisely for specific platforms and graphics hardware, which also improves overall stability.
Faster Start-Up and a More Predictable Shutdown
They have also updated the start-up experience in 2026.5 to be faster and cleaner, so you spend less time waiting to get into editing your photos. Shutdown has also been optimized to behave more predictably every time you close the app.
A Component Manager That Stays Out of Your Way
Modern apps like Photo RAW rely on components that change constantly, including AI models, camera and lens profiles, presets, and other extras. The ON1 Component Manager keeps all of it current without requiring owners to download and install large updates by hand. In 2026.5, they improved it to work more seamlessly and reliably in the background.
Send Photos to ON1 Photo Mobile Faster
In the mobile app, you can now send photos directly from Apple Photos, Google Photos, and other apps into ON1 Photo Mobile to import and edit them faster. The mobile app may take a few extra days to appear in the app stores after the desktop release of Photo RAW 2026.5, so check back if you don’t see the update right away.
